All ready for Las Américas Pro Tenerife

Just as we announced in September, Professional Surf returns to Tenerife, and this first tournament for the Qualifying Series will start in 7 days, on the 29th of January in Las Américas (Spanish Left or Izquierda de Las Palmeras). This will be a part of the Qualifying Series of the World Surf League with a QS1,500 Category, and a 40.000 dollar prize money. Both men and women will compete this time, so let’s go and see them !

The Canary Islands have a great tradition of WSL events. Gran Canaria and Lanzarote have had plenty of QS and JQS tournaments since decades ago, but Tenerife had been left behind for several years until now, thanks to Playa de las Américas.

Twelve years ago the Spanish left or Izquierda de las Palmeras was part of the QS, it was in 2006, and part of the merit of it coming back is of José Julián Menado, Arona’s Mayor, who said: “We wanted Playa de Las Américas and Arona to be associated with SURF, both for people who surf adn the people who feel attracted to the sport way of life”. Canary Islanders want to reinforce the expression that says that they are the Hawaii of Europe.

Las Américas PRO Tenerife will be the sixth event of the Qualifying Series in 2018, after Israel, Australia, Hawaii and USA. This competition will inaugurate professional surf in Spain in 2018, then we will have Zarautz (Guipuzcoa) from the 4th to thr 8th of April and Pantín (A Coruña) 29th August-4th of September.

This event will be broadcasted by the World Surf League on their official website and you will also be able to follow it on social networks with the hashtag #LasAmericasPro. Want to be the next champion of Las Américas Pro? Come and take some surfing lessons with us. Take a look at the video !
