FAQ - Tenerife

1What is the minimum age to take part in the surf lessons?
The minimum age required to take part in the lessons is 16. Some exceptions might be accepted always under request and previous agreement. Unaccompanied people under 18 years old must present upon arrival an authorization letter signed by their parents / legal tutors. You can download this form here or request it by email.
2What is the average age of the people who take part in the surf courses?
The average age of the people is 25 years during the winter time, and in summer, Easter week and Christmas holidays the average drops to 22 years as we receive many more students over school holidays.
3What do I need to take with me to the surf lessons?
We recommend you to take your swimming suit, sun block, beach towel, and some snacks and drinks for after or during the lessons. Please remember that if the lessons take place in an area further from Puerto de la Cruz, it will take us longer to come back.
Surf equipment is included in the lessons, so you don’t have to worry about the wetsuit and surfboard.
4At what time do the lessons start? At what time do they finish?
Usually students and instructor meet in the morning (07.45 – 08.00 am) to have an early start, as this is the best time of the day to teach this sport. This way we also avoid the crowds in the beaches, and we reduce the risk of strong winds.
Lessons finish and/or we will be back at Puerto de la Cruz around 12.00-02.00 pm, depending on the distance of the beach where the lessons take place. Duration of lessons is 3 hours each day.
5Do I have to book the surf lessons in advance? How would I have to do this?
We suggest all our students to book lessons as soon as you are certain about the dates as space is subject to availability and usually we only admit 8 students per lesson (during high season groups can be larger as we have more teachers per group).
6Where do lessons take place?
Your safety and enjoyment is our main concern, that’s why in order to assure the best waves and weather conditions, we regularly check them in advance. Weather conditions in Tenerife are constantly changing, so we check first in Puerto de la Cruz, and if it is necessary, we make every effort to move to another surfing spot of the island.
7Where are you? How can we find you?
We do not have an office open to the public as it is useless and unproductive for us because our surf school is mobile and bookings are made online or by telephone. Nevertheless, our head office and employees are from Puerto de La Cruz.

We are always available by telephone (0034 617646387) or via email (info@atlantiksurf.com).
8What is included in daily lessons?
Lessons are three hours per day (theory and practice given by a highly qualified instructor), surf equipment (surfboard, wetsuit and rope), transport from Puerto de la Cruz to the most suitable beach on that day and liability insurance. If you need further information, please click on this link: Tenerife Surf School.
9Can you surf during the winter? How is the weather like? Is it cold?
The average temperature in Tenerife in winter is between 18 degrees in January and 25 degrees in August and water temperature is between 18 degrees in February and 23 degrees in September and October. As we have a privileged weather, in Canary Islands it is possible to practice surf all winter without being cold, using a wetsuit of only 3.2 mm.
10Are there surf lessons even if there is adverse weather?
Unless there isn’t a storm or heavy rain forecast, the lessons will take place as planned. Otherwise we will get in touch with the students to postpone lessons and reschedule them for another time.
11What kind of equipment will we use for the lessons?
For beginner’s we will always use Victory and Madness soft-boards, between 7.0” and 9.0” depending on the height, weight and skills of the student. For advanced students we might use other type of boards, but this will always depend on the student’s level and the conditions we have.
12 Do you offer private lessons for beginners? Do you offer advanced surf coaching?
We offer private lessons always on request. The price is 25€/hour per person and you are required to attend lessons for a minimum of two hours per day. Lessons will be given by a highly trained and qualified instructor. All equipment and transport is provided.

We can also instruct advanced surfers under the same above mentioned condition. However surf equipment for this level is not included.
13Do you offer lessons on weekends?
Unless we have a minimum of four students, we do not offer lessons on weekends. Actually, lessons are not given on weekends. If you only have availability during the weekends, you should get into contact with us and we will make a list trying to cater to your schedule as much as possible.
14If I am not staying in Puerto de la Cruz, could I be picked up in another site/location? / what happens if I don’t stay in Puerto de la Cruz?
Transport is only included if you stay in Puerto de la Cruz (Hotels, apartments, bus station or Playa Martiánez)
We could pick you up in another place, in case it is in our way to the beach (previous confirmation). For this reason we always ask a contact number and your address on the island.
15Can I use the surf equipment once the lessons are finished?
Our surf equipment cannot be used after the lessons unless it is hired, and only if the conditions are the adequate. This will be consulted with the surf monitors/teachers. If the conditions to practice surf are inadequate, we will not hire the equipment. You can check rates and rules to hire surf equipment in Tenerife in the following link: Surf equipment rental.

17Do you offer a transfer Service from the airport?
