As you might know if you have lived in the Canary Islands, locals\u00a0have always gone abroad to discover new waves and surfing spots. Since the late 1980&#8217;s plenty of surfers went to Indonesia so currently\u00a0many locals\u00a0have surfed in <em>Mentawai Islands, Lombok, Gili Trawangan, Bali<\/em>, etc, but Indonesia is not as trendy as before in terms of surfing because it has become an over-touristic place, Bali has plenty of surfing spots for example but they are crowded. So which is the place to go right now? Which country has good waves, less people, plenty of surfing spots and is particular for its beauty, wildness and culture ?<strong> SRI LANKA !<\/strong><!--more--> Take a look at this video first:<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9hMQN6jZpWw\" width=\"900\" height=\"500\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><strong>Sri Lanka<\/strong> is an independent country that is a <em>little\u00a0<\/em>island of the size of Belgium and it&#8217;s on the<strong> south east of India<\/strong>, on the norht side of the <strong>Indian Ocean<\/strong>. Until 1972 it belonged to the British and was called <strong>Ceylon<\/strong>. \u00a0Since then, the country suffered a <strong>terrible civil war that lasted 30 years ending in 2009<\/strong>! The Sri Lankan Army defeated the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Liberation_Tigers_of_Tamil_Eelam\">Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam<\/a>. But now the civil war is over and<strong>\u00a0free surfing is back on the island!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wannasurf.com\/spot\/Asia\/Sri_Lanka\/\">wannasurf.com<\/a>\u00a0, Sri Lanka has <strong>good waves, offshore winds and is cheap to travel inside<\/strong>. On the other hand, there is pollution, localism and rests of the civil war on their people. They <strong>recommend good travel advice before going to Sri Lanka in 2017.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But where are the <em><strong>best surfing spots in Sri Lanka<\/strong><\/em>? The best website that really deserves a mention as before is <em>wannasurf.com<\/em> as they have the most amount of information about Sri Lanka&#8217;s surfing on the Internet. They even have a list with a score for each beach and wave, direction of wave, type of wave, frequency and level of experience. You can take a look at it <a href=\"https:\/\/es.wannasurf.com\/spot\/Asia\/Sri_Lanka\/\">here<\/a>. You can rank surf spots by\u00a0Quality and that is what I&#8217;ve done to get this list and write it down for you. If you disagree, please tell us your opinion, <strong>our only intention is to inform people about <em>Sri Lanka&#8217;s best surfing spots\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>but there are many more than on this list, we from <a href=\"https:\/\/atlantiksurf.com\/en\/\">Atlantik Surf<\/a> recommend to see them all if possible:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>ARUGAM BAY: Arugam Bay\u00a0<\/strong>has a 3.5 out of 5 possible points, the same as all the next surfing spots. It has right waves and the type of wave is point-break. 3\/4 Frequency of waves during the year. All surfers allowed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>BENNYS: Bennys\u00a0<\/strong> is a left wave on a reef-coral, there is no frequency rank and it&#8217;s only for experiences surfers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CORAL GARDEN: Coral Garden\u00a0<\/strong>has right and left side waves on a rocky reef and its only for Pros or Kamikazes.
