Besides the legendary Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang<\/em> (Indonesia), probably the most important and interesting Surf Contest this month took place from the 15th<\/sup> until the 26th<\/sup> in Teahupo’o, Tahiti, French Polynesia. The Billabong Pro Tahiti is part of the ASP World Tour Surfing; to be more precise it was \u201cMen\u2019s World Championship Tour #7\u201d.In the last round the 11 times World Champion Kelly Slater <\/em>and new star and winner of the Billabong Pro Tahiti Contest Gabriel Medina<\/em> from Brasil left their fans and spectators speechless and with shaking hands. In the end it was a difference in the score of only 0,03 points just in Slater\u2019s very last ride (9,30) that made Medina win for the third time during the WCT. Absolute high class surfing!<\/p>\n

But also because of other facts this contest is said to have had a very special proceeding according to a quote on the official homepage of the ASP World Tour<\/a>: \u201c”Historical!” “Epic!” “Incomparable!” These often get tossed around in surfing conversations. But the Billabong Pro Tahiti, Stop No. 7 on the 2014 ASP World Championship Tour (WCT), lived up to the hype.\u201d<\/strong> After the this statement they also list ten reasons for their opinion, why #7 was so extraordinary. Amongst others: Medina broke \u201cthree-way tie\u201d with Michel Bourez (French Polynesia) and Mick Fanning (Australia) and is now ahead of them; Kelly Slater got New Record For Highest Heat Average of 18.97 and hit five consecutive nine-pointers only in round 3; moreover some absolutely wicked drops and also wipeouts <\/a>in triple-overhead Tahitian waves and, in general, incredibly high scores (57 nine-point rides in all and seven perfect 10s!!!)<\/p>\n
