Three Spaniards in the Vans Triple Crown

It´s the moment of truth in the Pacific, particularly in Hawaii. There wil be played the last three tournaments to close the 2012 season, under the generic name of Vans Triple Crown.

The event celebrates its 30th anniversary and just to make it big, has increased the prize pool up to a million dollars for the winners, a good hook to attract the best riders from around the planet.

As if this were not enough economic reason, we must remember that in this competition which closes the course is at stake nothing less than the title of world champion of surfing. Today the Australian Joel Parkinson leads the standings with 3,200 points advantage over Kelly Slater, chasing his legendary twelfth world title.

The first challenge is the Reff Hawaiian Pro, in which 128 athletes have registered, including three Spanish surfers to rub shoulders with the elite: galician Gony Zubizarreta and basque Aritz Aranburu and Hodei Collazo.

Unfortunately the three can not access the next leg, as Zubizarreta Aranburu and have been matched in the opening round draw.

In Halaiwa beaches, scene of the event, the competition is scheduled to start today, since last Monday had to be abandoned due to lack of waves.

Viewers will enjoy attending there in the final rounds of the world famous surf stars, living legends like Kelly Slater, Gabriel Medina, Jeremy Flores or John John Florence, among many others.

The second battle is the Van World Cup, which takes place from November 25 to December 6. Then, to close the year, becoming the highlight of the Triple Crown of Surfing: Billabong Pipe Masters, scheduled from 8 to 20 December this 2012.
