Nordic by nature – surfing in the Baltic

baltic-surf

Last week I have been in Rostock, northern Germany. And since I was starring the whole week at the sea and there is no escape to visit Philipp and Raissa in their lovely Surfcamp in Tenerife in sight I started checking out the local surf spots.

Obviously there are a lot more surf spots in the Baltic but as usually in surfer’s life locals first 😉

Surfing in the Baltic Sea – especially now in autumn and winter – offers some special challenges. Warnemünde will never be Tenerife, so a thick wetsuit, cap and shoes are simply basic equipment.

We have to keep in mind conditions too. On certain winds we would have to go to certain spots or areas and maybe have to change the spot during the day. A little bit of reading on this topic and trying out might seem futile but forums or local surfers will answer your questions only partially.

Thank you for this gorgeous article. Finally someone who confirms that there actually are surfable waves at the German coasts. My life makes sense again 😛

Is there a similar overview of the North Sea? (for I’m not very fond of forums)
