The surfing season is over and as we said back in the Gilmore vs Peterson post, there were only two serious contenders to the 2018 WSL World Title and, after the last event (Beachwaver Maui Pro) in which current number 3 Carissa Moore ended up 1st, Stephanie Gilmore(Australia) conquered the 2018 WSL Surfing World Title thanks to her 3rd position on that precise last event. She already had a good distance in points but even better for her, Lakey Peterson couldn’t score with a throwaway, and she was number 2 on the table!

Stephanie Gilmore only won 3 events this season (Rip Curl’s Women Pro Bells Beach, Oi Rio Women’s PRO and the Corona Open J-Bay), which is something quite interesting as the same happened to the Men.  Not a single man or woman was able to win more than 3 events during this 2018 season which is something to highlight and something that speaks very well about the whole competition and of how difficult it is to end up number 1 after 10 events for women and 11 for men.

Now we must wait for next year to see our heroes and heroines again and it will be tough for most of us, as we like watching and enjoying Surfing.
