  1. El Frontón, Gran Canaria: One of the most amazing waves in the planet, powerful, dangerous, merciless, magestic, Canarian ! Just a wonderful wave that is so hollow that it is prefered by bodyboardes rather than surfers, although you can see some brilliant riders in El Frontón, but you need to be experienced. This wave is worth it even if you only want to watch it for a while.
  2. Lobos, Fuerteventura: This is perhaps the longest wave beach in the Canary Islands. If you want to surf a wave for more than just a few seconds go to Lobos in Fuerteventura. Although waves here don¡t appear that easily, when they come they just make the area look absolutely perfect, powerful tubes over canarian reef, which is very much the same as Hawaii, as they are both volcanic islands.
  3. El Confital, Gran Canaria: It’s considered one of the best Right reefbreeaks in the Canaries, perhaps in Europe as well. As it is just in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, it is surfed by millions of surfers per year although you need some experience to surf these waves when big. Quick waves and powerful, vertical drops with a good old strong take off. Great tubes as well.
  4. El Quemao, La Santa, Lanzarote: Well you’ve visited Fuerteventura and Lanzarote by now but now we move to Lanzarote, to El Quemao (The Burnt), where you will find one of the best surfing breaks in the Canary Islands. This one is dangerous and difficult. And this one has left and right waves. Go for it !
  5. Punta del Hidalgo, Tenerife: In this awesome part of the island of Tenerife, where you are surrounded by amazing green cliffs and vegetation on the coast of the city of La Laguna, you will find more than 5 breaks and all of them are for experienced surfers when big waves come. In fact, it is here (San Borondón -Punta del Hidalgo) where big-wave riders come from time to time, surfers like Alexander Zirke.
  6. Las Palmeras, Tenerife: This is one of the most famous waves in all the Canary Islands as it’s on the touristic part of Playa de las Américas, in the south of Tenerife. It’s a difficult left that works with any kind of swell and nearly all year round. It breaks over volcanic reef. With a vertical drop, you will get hollow tubes and good sensations as tourists take pictures of you from the boulevard !
  7. Maspalomas, Gran Canaria: If it weren’t for the pubs, Burger Kings, Mc Donald’s and stuff, this would be just the same as surfing in the desert of Sahara. Surrounded by sand dunes and hotels, you find this spectacular beach that is so huge that has a part for everyone. Maspalomas has more than 3 good breaks so although it might be a little bit crowded, it’s worth it.
  8. Igueste de San Andrés, Tenerife: Conditions need to be perfect for this wave to appear and it is behind the capital of Santa Cruz, between the mountains of Anaga, passing what they call Las Gaviotas.  The video is a good one I found about Surfing in the Canary Islands, Tenerife, where you can learn to surf with Atlantiksurf.
