The World Surf League is about to start in Spain

The World Surf League is heating up engines and is getting ready, one more year, to unfold the best of International surfing in our country: Spain. Five tournaments are ready for 2017 covering spots all around the country and giving more than 250.000 euros in prizes.

In Zarautz (Guipúzcoa), from the 19th to the 23rd with the Pro Zarautz, the Qualifying Series in Spain starts and the most important European and international surfers will meet in the Basque Country, they will all look for a good result in a tournament with the QS1500 category which will distribute 44.000 dollars.

The youngest riders will have to wait until July for the Junior Pro to start, reserved for under 18 surfers: The Junior Pro Sopela. It’ll be at Arrietera (Sopela-Vizcaya), from the 14 to the 17th of July in a tournament that every year beats the record of enlisted surfers in the JQS1000 category with a sum of 10.000 dollars.

The the beach of Pantín in La Coruña will have one of the most important championships of the year with the Pantín Classic Galicia Pro that this year celebrates their 30th anniversary with a category of QS6000, the best in Spain and a prize money of 200.000 dollars starting on the 29th of August to the 3rd of September. In Galicia, it is bank holiday as it has been declared as a Touristic Importante Date.

The in October we’ll have the Barcelona Surfing Weekend, a festival that will play tribute to the urban culture with a mix of surf, skate, environment, music and activities. It’ll be from the 13th to the 15th of October in the beach of Barceloneta (Barcelona), an unrivalled spot for the occasion.

The we have to go all the way to western Africa to land in Lanzarote, the last spot of the European circuit with the Junior Pro Teguise (JQS1000) that’ll put all the meat in the fire to coronate the champions of the European Junior Tour of 2017 in San Juan (Lanzarote), from the 31st of October to the 5th of November.

But big wave surfing will also be under the international focus with the Punta Galea Challenge, the only spot in Spain under the Big Wave Qualifying Series , it’ll take place in Getxo, Vizcaya, Basque Country. With 25.000 dollars at stake, it’ll be held on the 15thof October to 28th of February 2018, as they have to wait for big waves to come according to forecasts.
