Or much ado about nothing…

It was supposed to be one of the highlights of the summer. The Roxy Pro in Biarritz, France. The Crème de la Crème the best female Surfers were going to inspire us and show us how it´s done. But then came the but… The whole contest seems to be under a which´s spell due to a horrible swell forecast – no waves at all. So what was planned to be 4 days of surf rock & roll at the southeast French coast seems to be pretty lazy, but…

Every other Surf contest would look pretty much like boredom with conditions like this. But this is the great thing about the Roxy pros. Here one gets creative. Even if there are no waves at all, it remains exiting. The organizers focus, like in the last years, on a lot of side-activities that the spectators can try out for free and are mainly directed towards girls. Beside Yoga, SUP and a Charity Run against breast cancer there is a huge beauty program: manicures, hairstyling and massages.

When the sun goes down the nights stay hot in France. There are blasting concerts like Mesparrow, local bands like the duet Mellow, Queen of Diamonds and Lee-Ann Curren and her group Betty the Shark.

In the forefront of the contest the official contest teaser caused some discussion, too much naked skin and sex, too little surfing. And recently Roxy announced that the wonderful Stephanie Gilmore (5x ASP World Champion) just joined Roxy as a team rider. So it could have been an exciting contest, but…
