Courtesy of Arona and the World Surf League, professional surf returns to Tenerife after 10 years of absence, and it does it with the “Las Américas PRO“. It will be a new stop for the Men’s and Women’s Qualifying Series (QS) and it’s due for the last days of January and beginnings of February 2018 (JAN 29 – FEB 4, 2018) in this famous spot in the south of Tenerife.

The Mayor of Arona José Julián Mena presented details along with the regional and island councillors of tourism, Isaac Castellano and Alberto Bernabé, respectively, and the president of the Canarian Surf Federation, Ángel Lobo, who has been fighting for this to happen since ages ago.

Las Américas, as we’ve said before here, is really an ideal place to surf all year round as the weather is just fantastic even in Winter, where you can get 20 degrees and warm water. The water in the Canaries during winter is even hotter than in Galicia’s summer, where surfers are obliged to wear a wetsuit.

This is fantastic for the island and for the archipelago as all promising surfers will have to come to Tenerife and visit us, while they enjoy a fantastic island next to Africa but in Europe.

Atlantik Surf will be there during the whole tournament after giving some surfing lessons in Tenerife. Take a look at the video:
