First Nature reserve of surfing in Spain

The municipality Ribamontán al Mar in Cantabrian is the first in Spain and second in Europe (following Ericeira, Portugal) to declare its beaches and Nature Reserve of Surf.

This step was taken by the exceptional nature of this area and to protect its unique heritage value and natural resources, socioeconomic and cultural development.

The statement comes a proposal from the environmental department of the Cantabrian Surfing Federation and seeks both the recognition of natural resources such as tourism promotion linked up to this beautiful sport.

This innovative Nature Reserve of Surf covers the entire area of interest to surfers located between the towns of Somo, Loredo, Langre and Galizano, a coastal area which highlights the huge waves breaking on the island of Santa Marina.

Ribamontán al Mar is one of the municipalities of reference of surfing in Europe since, according to experts, this natural sanctuary of surfing has a large variety and quality of waves, big waves from expert-level waves of easy and safe beach suitable to take the first steps in this sport.

By the way, if you want to start surfing, you need to register a renowned surf school in northern Spain.
