10 signs you really need to go back to Ajo this summer (Part 1)

Welcome to Ajo!

1. Your Facebook profile picture is either you on a surfboard, you holding a surfboard or you posing with a surfboard.

Developing a passion for something always involves taking badass pictures of it. So of course you brought back quite a collection of these last summer, carefully picking the one to remain your profile picture on various social media sites all year long. And even during the harshest and coldest winter months, looking at it will remind you that there’s a better time of year and a better place that you really need to return to.
2. Your favorite t-shirt color is suddenly yellow.

As all Atlantik Surf students you spent large parts of your days in Ajo wearing a bright yellow lycra jersey. It’s what you were wearing catching your fist wave, what you were wearing standing up for the first time and what you were wearing when taking unforgettable photos of your adventures to show your friends back home. But most importantly, it made you part of the crew.
3. You’re in various Facebook and WhatsApp groups with all the friends you made the previous year, exchanging surf videos and discussing when and where to meet again.

One of the best things you’ve taken home with you last summer weren’t just all the great pictures and memories, but the friendships you made. Spending time with people from all over Europe, surfing, skating, going on trips and growing together as a group left you with lots of new contacts. The best thing is you and your new friends are sharing the same passion. So of course you want to meet and spend time together again. Where? In Ajo, obviously!
4. Finding an old piece of surf wax suddenly brings back the best memories.
This has probably happened to most of us no-surfspot-at-the-doorstep regulars: You’re going through your drawers looking for something and suddenly stumble upon a piece of last summer’s sticky surfboard magic. And there it is the smell of summer and friendship.
5. The word “tabajones” has become an integral part of your vocabulary.

Tabajones!!

Tabajones!!

Depending on when you spent time at Atlantik Surf in Ajo you will not only have been exposed to the constant use of the word “tabajones”, you will also even involuntarily have started using it yourself. Where it came from is to remain a mystery, but legend has it that it might have to do with the waterslides (Spanish= toboganes) at the campground’s own pool. Something that would also coincide with the meaning: fun, cool, as crazy as you want it, tabajones!!
